Crack It Open
Use a screwdriver to pry open the tabs that hold the shell together. You don't need to be too careful because you won't be using the outer casing, but at least in the case of the Fuji camera, the lens is not glued in, and the device will not work without it, so beware.
Before pulling the flash circuit, remove the battery then discharge the capacitor using a screwdriver or some other piece of metal with an insulated handle. Do not touch any part of the circuit while doing this. The capacitor is about half the size of a double A battery with two leads coming out of the end, and be prepared for a loud spark (look at step four in for the manual circuit to see what we’re talking about)
Disable or remove the shutter that is behind the lens.
